Last 301 - Scandal on Mr. Uribe's Government

This actually came to light about two weeks ago, when 3 Colombian Congressmen loyal to one of the political parties alligned with President Uribe were accused of having ties with illegal paramilitary forces (link here). They have since been detained (well, sort of... Some have actually dissapeared from the public sphere... I wonder why). Now these accusations grow closer to the president himself... last301

As it can be seen in this article, Congressman Alvaro Araújo has aknowledged his involvement with "Jorge 40" in 2004, a former AUC paramilitary who has now been demobilized during the "peace process" undertaken by Uribe's Government. To make things even more complicated, Alvaro Araujo also stated that this paramilitary ties could potentially grasp onto Colombia's current foreign minister, María Consuelo Araújo (who happens to be the senator's sister!!! How weird is that??)... To die for right? Sounds just like a "Telenovela", full of drama and wierd twists in the plot!! Can't wait for the next episode in this increasingly interesting story to pop up! Who might be next? I DEMAND THE TRUTH!! Every piece of it!

Is this episode going to explode into another "Elephant", just like ex-president's Ernesto Samper Scandal in the 1990's, when he was accused of financing his campaign with the aid of colombian drug lords? If Uribe turns out to be personally involved in this scandal it would actually be worse I believe. This is a very sensitive issue that involves links to mass murderers and human rights violatiors... Not to mention the concecuences this would have for Uribe's "Democratic Security" legitimacy... Sad very sad...
